Why YouTube and Search Engines Are The Best Source Of Traffic

If you’re new to online marketing and you’ve tried using social media to drive free traffic without the best results, you may want to try out YouTube and search engines.

Here’s my introduction. I talk about affiliate marketing and the successful methods I’ve learned and used in my circle.

The strategies we use are very versatile and have been tested through time and in multiple niches. These methods are for building long-term businesses as well as everlasting rapport with our audience.

In this session, you’ll learn:

  1. Why social media ads are interruptive

  2. YouTube and search engines remain the best

Here’s the truth about social media traffic not too many people talk about

TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, or any social media website, really, is not the best source of traffic for affiliate marketing unless you’re promoting in niche groups. This also goes for eCom.

The reason is that they’re all interruptive. Whether you’re doing free or paid ads on social media, it’s interruptive. People go on social media to share and connect, not shop or pay for a service.

I was on Facebook looking at some intelligent memes and this sponsored ad popped up. I had no intention of looking at Shopify ads. That’s interruptive.

That doesn’t mean these methods won’t work, it means that some extra work needs to be done.

Copywriting must be catering to the audience and the content has to be congruent with the product. The audience has to be targeted and keywords must be tested.

An example is marketing a cheese grater on Instagram. Unless your Instagram is about cooking or nifty DIY hacks that require a cheese grater, your ad/post will probably not convert very well.

There are plenty of successful people on social media selling their products, using an ocean of different strategies that’ll work.

Now that I’ve mentioned why social media is an interruptive style of marketing, here’s the best source of traffic for marketing products!

The best source of traffic for products is YouTube and search engines

People who use search engines have more of a probability to have a buyer’s intent compared to a person who watches TikTok videos. If someone wants to buy a car, they wouldn’t go on Instagram, instead, they would either Google it or use Bing and Yahoo.

Video is a very powerful medium for affiliate marketing. Uploading your videos to YouTube works well with physical and digital products because your audience can see and hear the product. People who are looking for advice on buying a car would actively look for video tutorials on tips to bargain or get advice on how to look out for automobile scams.

Who’s best to give out car information than passionate car enthusiasts on YouTube?

There are a plethora of relatable YouTubers who give their two cents for free, and that’s the best way you can get leads.

Your audience who searched for your video is not a cold audience to the subject. With some swaying words and tips others haven’t done yet and in your own style, leads will come pouring in.

Let’s use the Keto Diet as an example and punch those keywords into a few search engines.
Here are a few screenshots where people would generally want to find more information about the Keto Diet on YouTube.

YouTube keywords list after searching ‘ket diet weight’

This list of keywords are really good for video ideas for your product. These are popular search terms people are actively looking for.

YouTube Search for ‘keto diet weight’

You’ll find that most of the results show many different outlets reporting about keto diet weight loss, for someone who is new and looking to absorb information about the keto diet for the first time.

People who are looking for an even more specific niche group within the Keto Diet world will get more niche results.

YouTube Search for ‘keto diet weight lift’

As you can see ‘Keto Diet Weight Lift’ yields dozens of videos that are about weight lifting and strength training. They also span from 1 to 4 years ago, which means if this is your field of marketing, your chances of ranking on the first page are really likely.

Alternatively to YouTube, when people want to find out more about weight loss, they search for different types of diets, recipes, and workouts to achieve their goals via articles and blogs.

Search engines such as Google, Bing, Yahoo, and even Pinterest are great examples.

(Facebook does have a search feature, but it’s not as robust of a search engine as Bing.)

They also aren’t bombarded with interruptive ads that have nothing to do with the search intent.

If you’re advertising with video, take note of where the videos are located on Google.

Videos also take a huge chunk of real estate on the screen when they’re shown.

Google Search for ‘Keto Diet’ and it shows YouTube results on Page 1!

YouTube videos have their own section because for Google, it’s redirecting traffic to their own websites. (Google bought YouTube in 2006)

You see, those ads and organic search results are all in the same range. These types of ads that show up in the same niche are a much smoother transition compared to social media ads.

Now to wrap up, we’ve talked about why:

  • YouTube is still king of free traffic and lead generation.

  • Search engine ads are superior to social media ads
