How To Understand Your Customer Base
Do you understand your customer?
In this session, we’ll create a Customer Avatar together.
Customer avatars are a very necessary tool to have in your marketing journey because your customer is the one who will buy your product.
Watch the video on how to create the perfect customer avatar here!
The more information you can provide about your ideal client, the clearer your vision will be when it comes to who you want to target! For example, you wouldn’t want to advertise weight loss to people who are looking for vacation destinations. You wouldn’t want to sell ball game tickets to people who are looking for a Broadway show! To avoid all the guesswork about what you want to advertise to whom, you need to create a Customer Avatar.
Here are some questions that you should answer:
What product are you promoting?
eg. Keto Diet Meal Plans
What are the top 3 benefits of this product? (eg. below)
Promotes safe weight loss with quick results
Eat the food you love while losing weight
Just heat up the meals and serve
How old is your client?
Age 42
Is your client a male or female?
Male
Where do they live?
New York City
What kind of job do they have?
Computer Programmer
Are they married?
Yes
Do they have children?
One son
Do they have pets?
No
These questions are really general and factual questions about who they are. You’re creating a character that will go through a journey with you so that you know how to talk to them.
Now that you’ve created a profile, there are more things you’ll need to write out:
What are your customer’s biggest pain points?
Both Bob and his wife work long hours so they order take out every night. (Bob’s wife is also a potential customer)
Bob stays seated for work and is glued to the computer screen.
Bob doesn’t have time to go to the gym since he has to bring his son to school early morning and has to pick him up after school. (Potential customer for home gym equipment as well)
How does your product solve your customer’s pain?
Keto Diet Meal Plans are healthy prepared meals that are ready to be served after heating.
It’s quicker than ordering take out and you can store the meals in the fridge.
Each meal is packed with the essential nutrients and can be modified for those who are not on the Keto Diet.
So once you’ve completed these questions, you’ll have the ideal customer. Of course, things will change along the way if this is your first time writing out a customer avatar. Along the way, you can fine-tune the character you’re going to sell to so it is more accurate. For better results, you can create multiple avatars and see what type of conversation you can mockup. This exercise allows you to get to know your target audience better and in the long run is proven very helpful when it comes to copywriting.
